All rooms are solar powered each banda with its own battery, panel and inverter. We feel that solar helps us to move away from buying fuel of any kind to light rooms and paths. All paths are lit with solar path lights.
We trust you will enjoy Suyian showers under the stars, sometimes in the rain! The safari style bucket shower holds about 40litres of water and might be enough for two but if it is not there is plenty of water for a top up. Hot water is heated on an open fire at present but we will be installing “kuni boosters” which save on burning too much wood. This style of shower with no plumbing saves water.
The decision to put in long drop toilets is purely to save water in this arid environment; the holes are between 8 and 9ft down. There is a pipe that extends above the roof which extracts any odour by being carried off by the breeze. We treat the toilets with EM (Effective Microorganisms), a natural plant based liquid that speeds up the action of natural bacteria, and it really does work well.
